07/01/2006: "Adele Bloch-Bauer Headed To Neue Galerie"

"Adele Bloch Bauer I" was sold to cosmetics manufacturer Ronald Lauder for $135 million in late June. Yesterday was the last day of the exhibition so EJ and I headed to the LACMA for one last look. All 5 paintings will be on display at the Neue Galerie in New York starting July 13. The Neue Galerie was co-founded by Ronald Lauder, and their mission is to preserve early 20th century Austrian and German art. Lauder said the acquisition of "Adele Bloch-Bauer I" was like acquiring their own "Mona Lisa" for the Neue Galerie.
